WWU Symphony Orchestra

Join the Western Symphony Orchestra and conductor Ryan Dudenbostel as they opens their 2018-2019 season with masterworks by Tchaikovsky, Britten, and Shostakovich. Graduate student conductor Mika Armaly leads the orchestra in two selections from Tchaikovsky’s iconic opera Eugene Onegin, and faculty members Eric Rieger and Gustavo Camacho join for the ravishing Serenade for Tenor, Horn, and Strings by Benjamin Britten. By turns brooding and manic, Dmitri Shostakovich’s 1939 Symphony No. 6 in B minor concludes the program. Program: P. I. Tchaikovsky: Waltz and Grand Polonaise from Eugene Onegin. Mika Armaly, conductor. Benjamin Britten: Serenade for Tenor, Horn, and Strings. Eric Rieger, tenor. Gustavo Camacho, horn. Dmitri Shostakovich: Symphony No. 6 in B minor, Op. 54.

WWU - A Light in the Darkness

A Light in the Darkness: Songs of Hope and Comfort, featuring the WWU Concert Choir. Dr. Leslie Guelker -Cone, conductor. Saturday, November 17, 2018, 7 pm. Church of the Assumption, Bellingham. As Thanksgiving approaches in the Pacific Northwest and the days grow short in preparation for the coming winter, our thoughts turn to home and hearth and comfort. We are reminded of the joys of family and community and celebration, and we are thankful for the incomparable beauty that surrounds us. We greet the season with mixture of feelings: nostalgia and loss, gratitude and hope. This concert will feature beautiful choral music that reflects these varied themes as we join together to usher in the holiday season with songs that inspire and uplift us, bringing light to our wintry days. Celebrate winter in the Pacific Northwest with a magical evening of beautiful choral music, solos, candles, and poetry.
