2019 Whatcom READS! Art Challenge & Exhibit

Artists wanted! Whatcom READS and Allied Arts of Whatcom County present the 2019 Whatcom READS Art Challenge. We challenge artists to create works inspired by the novel “The Big Burn” by Timothy Egan. The exhibit is open to artists of all genres, mediums, and skill levels. After reading the book, artists create a piece in a medium of their choice that is inspired by the story. For more information go to: www.alliedarts.org or www.whatcomreads.org. It’s easy to participate. 1. Read the book "The Big Burn" by Timothy Egan available at your local library or purchase at Village Books. 2. Create an art piece and explain how the book inspired your art. 3. Submit your work to be exhibited at Allied Arts in March 2019. Opening Reception: Friday, March 1, 2019, 6pm - 9pm. RARE: Recylcled Arts Resource Expo

We’re happy to announce that this will be the 7th annual Recycled Arts Resource Expo! RARE is a two-day event that provides a platform for eco-friendly artists to showcase their art created from recycle materials. RARE also promotes art organizations and facilities that incorporate sustainability in their facilities and programs. One of our main objectives for this event is to educate the community on the role that the arts can play in the sustainability movement. This year’s RARE event will provide an entertaining array of events, as well as hosting a strong program of educational workshops, speakers, panel discussions, exhibits and booths. Attendees are inspired to take home innovative ideas that recognize the value of using resources creatively.

19th Annual Children’s Art Walk

19th Annual Children’s Art Walk. May 3, 2019 - 6pm to 9pm. We welcome all to stroll through downtown Bellingham and delight in the works of the younger art community. On Friday, May 3, Whatcom County students will proudly display their works of art during the 19th annual Children’s Art Walk presented by Allied Arts of Whatcom County. On this night there will be a number of activities for kids and adults, music, and more to celebrate the arts in schools. Art will stay on display through May in honor of the state wide Arts Education Month. Please visit www.alliedarts.org for more information.

Whatcom County Arts and Culture Festival

Allied Arts of Whatcom County. Contact: Kelly Hart - Executive Director kelly@alliedarts.org, 360-676-8548. Whatcom County Arts and Culture Festival. Allied Arts of Whatcom County is working with organizations throughout Whatcom County on a two-day Cultural Arts Festival to take place in Fairhaven, June 28-29, 2019. The festival will kick off with the Historic Fairhaven Fourth Friday Art Walk and run through Saturday. It will be a collaborative project with the Historic Fairhaven Association, Bellingham/ Whatcom Tourism Bureau, Native Arts Collective and the Whatcom Artist Guild and more. Funded in part by City of Bellingham Tourism, Whatcom Tourism, and other local contributions. The Fairhaven Village Green will be the main hub for booths and performances with Fairhaven businesses hosting specials and activities throughout Fairhaven. Activities are taking place throughout the weekend at the Fairhaven businesses as well. Activities and events will focus on the arts, music, performance, food, presentations and workshops highlighting the diverse cultural communities in Whatcom County with the goal of promoting cultural diversity. Allied Arts of Whatcom County June 2019 Gallery Show: Native Arts Collective. June 7 - 29, 2019. Opening Reception: June 7, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Gallery Hours: Monday thru Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday noon to 5 p.m. Allied Arts of Whatcom County is excited to introduce the Native Arts Collective for our June 2019 gallery show. This show will be featuring the unique and captivating works of Native artists from throughout the Pacific Northwest. The exhibition will consist of various media including intricate beadwork, jewelry, wood carving, metalwork, drums, blankets, glass, and more.

2019 Gallery Series: Piece by Piece

July 5 – 27, 2019. Opening Reception: July 5, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Gallery Hours: Monday thru Friday 10a.m. to 5p.m., Saturday noon to 5p.m. Allied Arts of Whatcom County’s 2019 Gallery Series for June; Piece by Piece, will showcase artwork from local artists with a variety of media. Showcase will include work by Rae Ellen Lee who makes playful pieces out of recycled bits and paint for window sills, shelves and desktops. Ginny Baker, who captures the beauty of various city and scenic viewpoints. Lois Dahl will have wildlife totems of various sizes. Carol Hansen with her fantastic time intensive egg-shell mosaics. The Allied Arts Gallery is dedicated to providing a professional space for local artists of every background and experience level to present and sell their work, supporting the arts and artists of Bellingham’s community.
