Intro to Metal Jewelry Fabrication

Jewelry/Gems

Instructor: Judith Gauthier. Create a one of a kind pin, pendant, or pair of earrings designed and fabricated by you. This beginning jewelry fabrication workshop will get you familiar with basic techniques and processes involved in this fun medium. Learn how to anneal, cut, solder, form, texture, polish, and patina. We will be creating two fun pieces of jewelry that you will design and make and take home with you. No experience necessary. Registration deadline: February 15, noon.

Wednesday Lunchtime Music - Nell Veenstra

Classical

Nell Veenstra received her Bachelor of Arts in Music Education and Piano Performance from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Her teaching experience spans 30 plus years, working with children and adults. Nell has held memberships in the American Orff-Schulwerk Association (AOSA) and the Music Teachers National Association, in addition to the local chapter in Lynden (LMTA).

Paint and Wine Night

Painting, Class/Workshop

Instructor: Elizabeth Larson. Arrive empty handed and enjoy a night of painting and fun. You will leave the studio at the end of the evening with a completed painting of your own. Full guidance and instruction will be given throughout the class to paint a landscape. This session is appropriate for the complete beginner as well as the more experienced painter, basic painting principles will be taught throughout the evening. *Wine will be offered at extra charge. Registration deadline: 1 pm on 2/22/18.

Jansen Jazz Band Concert

Jazz

Under the direction of Steve Herrick, this group performs a new collection of songs in a big band jazz style for each of their concerts. The program for the February performance has a great selection of tunes from pop, swing, rock and jazz standards. Bonnie VanderYacht will be featured vocalist on a Michael Buble tune Everything. Returning is veteran trumpet player Ed DeVaney who will be featured in a nice arrangement of My Funny Valentine.

Live at the Piano Lounge - Jeff "Elvis" Fuller

Cover/Tribute Band/Performer

Jeffrey Elvis Unplugged is a tribute show featuring Jeffrey Fullner as Elvis Presley. The performance captures the very heart of a long lost era, driven by the best heart and soul of the best American performer and entertainer of all time, Elvis Presley. Not only does Jeffrey naturally look like Elvis, his atomic voice and personality are hard to distinguish from the King himself.

Discovery Through Art: Feb 16 & 23

Children's Arts/Crafts, Class/Workshop

Young artists in this studio class will be able to design patterns, and draw from nature to compose drawings and bright hue paintings. Artists will explore negative and positive space, composition, and develop rendering and painting skills. All ability levels and guests welcome. Sunday @ 3: Young Concert Series

Classical, For the Family

Sunday at 3 is designed as a program to allow young, semi professional artists to perform work showcasing the advancement of their skills. The concert will feature a performance by Bellingham’s own prodigy, pianist and composer, Henry From. Sunday at 3 is a family friendly concert series, and students and families are encouraged to attend.

Enamel, Enamel Workshop

Jewelry/Gems, Class/Workshop

2 Day Workshop: Saturday & Sunday, February 24 & 25. Instructor: Judith Gauthier. This is a two-day workshop exploring the rich world of enameling on copper. We will be using opaque and transparent enamels to produce fun, creative jewelry pieces. Techniques such as sifting, stenciling, and wet-packing will be introduced and applied. Registration deadline: 12 pm on February 22.

Pokemon Mugs

Ceramics/Pottery, Children's Arts/Crafts

4 Weeks: Sunday, February 25 – March 18. Instructor: Nicole Lockard. Suitable for students just beginning in clay, but can also be differentiated for students with more experience. Students will explore several handbuilding techniques and surface design possibilities, and then use these techniques to create a Pokemon/monster mug, which they will glaze and keep forever.

Wednesday Lunchtime Music - Karen Scholten

Classical

Local music teacher, Karen Scholten, returns to the Piano Lounge at the Jansen Art Center. Scholten is a member of the Music Teachers National Association and the Washington State Music Association. She studied music history, music education, voice and concert choir at Seattle Pacific University. She teaches composition and piano to students of all ages in her studio in Everson.

Call to Artists: Spring Juried Exhibit

Art Show

The Jansen Art Center is now accepting submissions for the 2018 Spring Juried Exhibit. The Juried Exhibits are open to the public as a way to showcase the artistic talent in Whatcom County and the surrounding region. Each season, artists are invited to submit up to five pieces to be judged by a qualified jury made up of artists, curators, and other figures in the arts community. The selected pieces are displayed in the Jansen Art Center for the community to enjoy. Submissions will be accepted through 11:59 PM on Monday, February 5. There is a $25 submission fee for up to 5 works. Artist level members (or higher) receive $10 off their submissions.
