Summit of Two

Folk, Blues, Americana/Roots

John Meier – Born and raised in LA I was always around music. Through the 80’s and 90’s I played casually with friends at our summer party in Conway. Then, my son Kyle and I started performing locally at Brindles Marketplace on Camano Island and then at The Conway Muse. We joined with another father, son, and a multi-instrumentalist to form “The Slough Dogs” who now continue as a trio when the “sons” left to pursue other interests. Open mic nights at the Muse connected me with other local musicians who eventually formed “Slim Fat Lips” who continue to perform in Skagit County and surrounding areas. Composing and performing music has become a sideline that is almost consuming, but I still have a day job… I play songs that I or others close to me have composed in addition to songs from artists who have made a statement with their music that connects to my sense of melody, harmony, and tasty musicianship. David Ritchie is a poet turned to writing lyrics. Preferring blues, ballads, Americana, and soft rock, he has performed in bands of that genre for many years. Teaming up with his music writing partner in Summit of Two, has given him the opportunity to write and perform the type of music he loves.

The Atlantics

The Atlantics – are a of experienced musicians who enjoy what they are doing. With decades of stage experience, they know just what to do to make a good thing happen. This band has been together for 37 years. Try to name another local band that has enjoyed success and worked steadily since 1980. These musicians enjoy themselves, but take their music seriously. Carrying on the tradition of great Northwest dance bands, they offer some of the best, most infectious popular dance music of the last 50 years. They started out playing at the legendary 1890’s in La Conner and The Magic Skagit Festivals that stopped the nuclear power plans on the Skagit. On any given evening with the Atlantics, crowds will hear their originals as well as their unique interpretations of songs by Ray Charles, James Brown, to the Beatles, and up to current hits by Jon Cleary, Robert Cray, John Hiatt, but this diversity has a common theme, dance-ability and fun. With over 100 titles on their current play list, this band can match the mood of any crowd.
