Volunteer Event

Come volunteer with us! Join our monthly volunteer orientation every first Saturdays 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. Bellingham Makerspace is a volunteer-run, non-profit creative workshop that provides access to tools, education, technology, professional development, and a vibrant community of collaborative people- Makers. Active membership, classes, and donations allow us to continue to provide this valuable resource to the community. We encourage people to share their skills and interests through volunteering, teaching, and/or membership.

Learn to Solder: RGB LED Ball

Design

Assemble the little kit to make a unique LED ball that flashes in the dark. Use your imagination and customize it to suit any holiday decorations from Christmas ornaments to Halloween. Features: Easy to solder. Automatically sequences RGB fade and flash effects. Turns on automatically when it gets dark. Transparent acrylic ball included. Easy to customize. Suited for outdoor use & floats on water (if the ball is sealed with waterproof glue, not included). Learning how to solder is an extremely useful skill for all skillsets and ages. As we assemble our project we will discuss all aspects of soldering including, safety, soldering irons, component identification, preparation, types of solder, and flux. We will also cover tinning and splicing wires and desoldering as necessary. There will be examples of prototype circuit construction techniques and extra components and boards to practice on.

Make Art: Handbuilding

Art Talk, Children's Arts/Crafts

Unlike normal pottery classes this one teaches you how to use skills that date back to the BC era, when people did not have a pottery wheels and used their hands to create amazing works of art. Normally handbuilding classes use terracotta or other kiln fired clay but in this class we will be using baking clay that can be brought home and baked in a kitchen oven. In class we will go over techniques used to create, bowls, cups and mini dishware.

Register now and bring some friends to an uplifting relaxed paint filled evening. Join us for a guided art lesson from our local artist: INK. She will lead the class in making psychedelic inspired art with accompanied inspiration breaks helping to bring your creativity to a higher level. Enjoy the relaxed social environment and music. Let your creativity flow. 21+ to explore creativity at a higher level. Painting techniques covered: Horizon lines, Viewpoints, Lighting, and Blending. Intro to Drawing

Children's Arts/Crafts, Art Talk, Mixed Media

Class Schedule (three sessions over three weeks): Intro to Drawing Session 1: April 6: 1:30 pm - 3.30 pm; Intro to Drawing Session 2 : April 13 1:30 pm - 3.30 pm; Intro to Drawing Session 3 : April 20 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm. This is a series of three classes where we will learn how to draw linear perspective, proper use of light and shading techniques (this will create depth, giving the drawing a third dimensional feel and atmospheric perspective). This class shows our students the importance of where light hits a subject, shading to gain depth of an object and the horizon lines to establish view. Once these skills are learned your child will be the best artist in your family. Ages 7+. Learn about blending, viewpoints, lighting, and horizon lines. For Ages 10-900+ years old. No experiences needed, bring your enthusiasm! Parental accompaniment required for ages 10-15.

Vector Graphics 101

Design

Vector Graphics 101. April, 26th : 5:00pm-6:30pm. At the Bellingham Makerspace. 1000 F Street, Bellingham, WA. To effectively use the laser cutter or vinyl cutter, you need a good vector graphic (file types SVG, AI and EPS). Instructor Jason Davies shows you how to use the free and open-source program "Inkscape" to make, edit and trace your own vector graphics.
