Children's Summer Reading 2019

B-I-N-G-O spells Summer Reading! Pick up a Summer Reading bingo card and set your own reading goal. Children ages birth - 5 are challenged to complete activities that get families talking, singing, reading, writing and playing together. Children in grades K - 6 are encouraged to read a variety of things over the summer, inspired by suggestions on the bingo card. Shibashi Tai Chi

Shibashi is one of the most popular qigong sets in the world and can be performed seated or standing. This session will lead the participants through 18 movements that are gentle and peaceful. With a focus on breathing, the movements may reduce stress; improve concentration, calm emotions, increase energy and overall flexibility leading to better health and wellbeing. Chair Chi, as it is often called, is an excellent exercise for people who may have concerns about balance and want to improve their stability. For some, these concerns arise after a fall and worry that it might happen again. For others, arthritis or other physical issues prevent standing and moving for lengths of time. Chair Chi is perfect for people who live in small places but want to do a daily exercise. In this session, the presenter will teach the participants a set of movements that can be done at home. Bring your broken household items to SkillShare at the Central Library and work with skilled volunteers from NW Free Repairs to learn how to repair them. Volunteers have experience repairing common household items such as toys, small kitchen appliances, electric tools and many other items that would otherwise end up in a landfill. Please note: broken items may not be dropped off to be repaired. Owners must be willing to participate in making the repairs with the assistance of the volunteers. The Friends of the Bellingham Public Library are having their Fall Book Sale. It begins on Wednesday, September 25 and runs through Saturday, September 28. As usual, there is a large selection of books and media for all ages. Tables are re-stocked continually. The hours are: Wednesday and Thursday, September 25 and 26: 10:00am - 6:00pm. Friday, September27: 10:00am - 6:00pm – Half Price Sale! The $4 for a bag sale will be Saturday, September 28: 10:00am - 1:00pm. Intermediate English Conversation Class

Intermediate English Conversation Class is offered by the Whatcom Literacy Council for people who want to practice speaking English. It is facilitated by a trained volunteer who will lead the class. The class will focus on reading, writing and speaking about everyday activities, American Culture, and current events. The class takes place in an open setting.
