Texture & Patinas - Beginning Jewelry Series

Jewelry/Gems, Design

Students will have the opportunity to try their hand at modifying an old hammer and create a signature texture for their collection. Then using this hammer and a variety of other hammers, we will experiment with various textures and finishes on metal. The class will also review how to use the rolling mill to impress texture, pattern, etc. onto the surface of metal. Students are encouraged to bring in old ribbon, fabric, stencils, etc. to impress onto metals surfaces. Using samples from class, we will review liver of sulfur patinas for copper, brass and silver. Instructor: Leah Meleski. Prerequisites: Open to adults, 18 years or older, wanting to learn new skills. Students have taken a Beginning Jewelry Metalsmithing Class or equivalent and are familiar with the jewelry studio.
