River Set Gemstone Pendant

Jewelry/Gems, class/workshop, design

In this 5 night Wednesday workshop, we will review basic metalsmithing skills including a variety of rivets. We will use these skills to create an original layered pendant that sets a cabochon or faceted gemstone between two or more textured sheets of metal. Design principles will be discussed in preparation for students to plan their original design. Students will complete a rivet sample, utilize various design templates to complete sketches for their pendant, consider how each type of rivet can both enhance and perform the functions necessary for the students design and review finishing techniques (patinas and polishing) to finish their piece of jewelry. Instructor: Leah Meleski. Prerequisites: Open to students who have taken beginning jewelry or have previous experience with basic skills such as sawing, filing, and roller printing. Free parking & handicapped accessible. Registration required.
