Arthur Foss - History and Haul Out

The November meeting of the Whatcom Maritime Association will feature Richard Miller who will cover the history of the tug Arthur Foss and its haul out in the summer of 2017. Mr. Miller's professional career includes 35 years as Bridge Engineer and Director of Transportation Capital Projects for the Seattle Department of Transportation. The history of the Arthur Foss is a long and storied tale and, as with any 129 year old vessel, there are many chapters. These include a variety of challenging tow assignments from the South Pacific to the Columbia Bar to Alaska. Arthur went to war in World War II, played a major role in an old movie, served as a museum and got gold fever in Alaska. But through it all she persevered and in the summer of 2017 was due for maintenance haul out. Mr. Miller was the project manager for the Northwest Seaport for that haul out. The program is free and open to everyone so invite your friends. Refreshments will be served.
